Great day for a race.  Cool temperature and little wind.  Felt pretty good overall.  Only minor glute/hamstring pain which was kept in check by sports cream and 8-hour Tylenol.  Ran a few steps behind Paul T. and had Tom L. within sight for the first 10 miles, until they picked up the pace and opened up the distance more.  I accomplished 2 of my 3 goals for the day.  namely, 1) be first finisher from the Ultradent team, 2) match or exceed Michelle L's time from last years race, and 3) go under 1:30.  Didn't quite meet goal #3, but I was happy to run relatively even splits and not drop way off in the last couple of miles.

(My Garmin measured 13.0 for the course, but I haven't heard anyone else say it was short  so maybe my actual splits were slightly better than shown...)

Great job Cal!! Glad you where feeling it. Still planning TOUM and SG?

From MichelleL on Sep 07, 2008 at 14:52:20

Well I didn't know I had a target on my back but am glad you squarely met that goal. Those are great splits.

From Paul T on Sep 07, 2008 at 18:18:52

It was nice meeting you during the race, Cal. You ran tough and had a great race.

I was a little jealous of all the support you got from all the other Ultradent runners. I felt like I was running with a celebrity.

Cal you ran a great race. Congrats on meeting the majority of your goals and on being the undisputed Ultradent Champion!

Glad to hear the pain-in-the-rear didn't cause you much grief. Perhaps I'll have to try the sports-cream/Tylenol trick next time.

Good work Cal. You keep inspiring me. Hang in there, we're getting closer.

It's cool to know the Ultradent champion! Whenever I met someone from your company I said, "I know Cal". I felt pretty important to know you! I'm glad your company came down to SF for this race. I hope it was a good experience for all of them. Tell Teena I'm waiting for her to join the blog. Never mind, you don't need to tell her...she's a LURKER....she'll read this on her own!

Good luck on the Fifteen hundred dollar prize!

Incredible race Cal!! Congrats on finishing so strong. You're quite the Champ now!!

I'm going to give this blogging thing a try (even though I'm not a diehard like you).

Cal, great race! I hear this is not an easy course. You ran very smart. Awesome mental toughness to finish strong, nice job.
