It’s a good thing that this wasn’t race day!  Was planning on 5 tempo miles but it didn’t work out that way.  On the plus side, it’s only been 5 days since the marathon, it was approx 80 degrees outside, and there was no race day magic out there.  On the negative side, this would have been an easy run back in the spring…  Just have to keep at it.

You didn't mention any pain. That's got to be a good sign. Those are some fast miles!

From Tom on Aug 28, 2008 at 15:42:07

Cal considering you ran a marathon 5 days ago and with the heat I think you did great staying under 7's for the 4 miles. Like you said...just have to keep at it and the "magic" will return at some point, perhaps next week at SF 1/2 marathon?

BTW the offer to stay out our place still stands, I'll check back with you next week and let you know details if you decide to go that route.

Also I'm not sure if you're familiar with the SF 1/2 marathon course. I entered it into the course tool a few weeks ago, check it out if you'd like some idea on how you might want to pace. Definitely not a PR close and a little slower than true flat course since it has some uphill in the middle.

Teena - Pains were minor today. Plus I'm hoping if I don't dwell on them, they'll go away!

Tom - Hey thanks for putting the SF course in there. The elevation chart on the website kind of skews the perspective on the hills, I hope. I'm really looking forward to this race.

Nice run. I got out a little late or I may have joined you. The heat does start to take its effect after a few faster miles.

That's too bad I missed you. The 'Terry Factor' is usually as good for me as 'Race Day Magic'.

Wow man. Great splits. You are recovering great.

From Tom on Aug 28, 2008 at 18:21:38

Cal I just checked out the website elevation map and noticed it's all whacked out. Those huge spikes it shows around miles 4 and 10 are bogus. Also the dip between miles 5 and 6 and around 9 look fishy. However the hill around miles 6-7 looks accurate.

The map I put in the Course Tool might have a few glitches as well but it's a lot closer than this one.

You're the man Tom! That's good to know.

Nice workout today! I still have to get out tonight.

Great miles and pretty speedy! Considering you just ran a marathon, pretty amazing. What time you thinking at STGM?

From Cal on Aug 29, 2008 at 10:06:53

Mike -

For St. George i'm thinking 'as fast as possible'. (with 'possible' being the key word!) I've been planning all year on going for a sub-3, but I'll just try to run it smart and be happy with wherever I end up.
